The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has reaffirmed that the welfare of officers and soldiers remains a central pillar of his leadership in tackling insecurity across the country.
The assurance was given on Saturday, March 21, 2026, during an Eid-el-Fitr luncheon with troops at the Forward Operating Base in Epe, Lagos.
Represented by the Chief of Transformation and Innovation (Army), Major General O. S. Abai, the COAS emphasised that the strength of the Nigerian Army lies not only in its operational capabilities and equipment but also in the well-being, morale, and confidence of its personnel.
He reiterated his commitment to improving living conditions, enhancing professional development, strengthening family support systems, and ensuring that all personnel are treated with dignity and fairness.
The Army Chief described the 2026 Eid-el-Fitr celebration as particularly symbolic, noting that the holy month of Ramadan coincided with the Christian Lenten season.
According to him, this rare convergence saw both Muslim and Christian personnel of the Nigerian Army engage in fasting and spiritual reflection at the same time, reinforcing unity within the ranks.
He stressed that despite differences in modes of worship, the core values of sacrifice, humility, compassion, and renewal remain common to both faiths, underscoring the shared purpose that binds the military institution.
