In a significant operation, the Nigerian Army’s 4 Special Forces Command stationed in Doma, Nasarawa State, has successfully apprehended three suspects involved in the vandalism of railway tracks.
The culprits were intercepted in Keana local government area, and their truck, laden with vandalized rail tracks, was seized.
Maj. Joseph Adekunle Afolasade, Deputy Director Army Public Relations Officer of the 4 Special Forces Command, confirmed the arrests during a press briefing in Doma on Monday. The suspects have now been handed over to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps for further investigation and legal proceedings.
The Nigerian Army’s 4 Special Forces Command has intensified its efforts in combating insecurity in the southern part of Nasarawa State, focusing on the alarming issue of railway track vandalism. This incident marks the second arrest of railway vandalism suspects by the 4 Special Forces Command between July and August 2023.
The recent apprehension occurred in Kwarra village, Keana Local Government Area, as troops on routine patrol intercepted the suspects’ truck loaded with the pilfered rail tracks. Major Joseph Afolasade emphasized the commitment of the security agencies to maintaining a strong synergy to safeguard public infrastructure.
In a subsequent interview, Mr. Chibuike Akubuilo, one of the apprehended suspects, claimed to be the driver of the vehicle owned by a private firm. He confessed that he was paid a partial sum of 1.2 million Naira to transport the vandalized rail tracks to Port Harcourt.
Both the suspects and the impounded truck will remain in detention under the custody of the 4 Special Forces Command Doma, pending their transfer to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps in Lafia, the capital of Nasarawa State.
