Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno and former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Atuekong Don Etiebet, have lauded the Chairman of OrukAnam Local Government Area, Hon Sunday Festus, for implementing the Arise Agenda through development of basic infrastructure at the grassroots in the state.
Eno urged other local government chairmen in the state to emulate the development effort by OrukAnam Council chairman in order to accelerate rural development in line with the Arise Agenda of his administration.
Speaking during the commissioning of an ultramodern motor-park at the council headquarters Ikot Ibritam at the weekend, Eno said the council chairman has invested in almost all sectors captured in the Arise Agenda thereby improving the economy of rural dwellers.
The Governor said: “You have utilized the resources of this local government and the federal allocation for the wellbeing of the people
“I urge other local government chairmen in the state to emulate your example in rural development and by extension in spending local government revenues as given to them from the Federation Account federal.
“This is how local government administration should be. The government is happy that you have diversified your resources and generate internal revenue to augment what the federal government has given you for development without waiting for allocation.
“I appreciate you as agriculture is contributing massively to the revenue pool of the council. Government is happy because you have invested to secure the future of OrukAnam people through payment of bursary to students.

“You are replicating what the state government is doing at the state level. Indeed the beautification project you have done around the local government Secretariat is commendable.”
Eno who was represented by Chairman of ALGON in the state and chairman of Uyo local government area Dr Uwemedimo Udo further appreciated Hon Festus Akpan for turning the dumpsite of the council to an ultra-modern motorpark adding that the governor has also turned an erosion prone are in Uyo into tourism site for the growth of the state
The former Minister of Petroleum Resources and chieftain of All Progressives Congress (APC), Atuekong Don Etiebet, also hailed the council chairman for not disappointing him who struggled for creation of the local government area in 1989.
“I fought for the creation of this local government area in 1989. I thank God because you have brought rural transformation in our rural communities.”
Earlier, the Chairman of the council said he had brought many projects to the area including construction and commissioning of motor-park where commuters would be conveyed to Bonny Island, Uyo, Aba, Rivers State, Calabar and other cities.
He said the Assured Farm has generated N27m as internal revenue for the council recently.
He spoke further: “We have paid N10m bursary to students from the area, provided classroom desks, trained farmers and provided them with farm seedlings, paid allowance to traditional rulers, gave business support grants to 300 rural women and bought free JAMB forms for 150 students from this area among others.”
