The Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON) has honoured the Chairman of Mindshare Communications Limited, Prof. Osaren Philips Emokpae, for his pioneering role in the development of media independent practice and contributions to the growth of Nigeria’s advertising industry.
Emokpae received the Frontrunner Award at ARCON’s maiden Frontrunner Awards ceremony in Lagos, which recognised practitioners whose innovations, leadership and professional accomplishments have shaped advertising practice in Nigeria.
The ceremony attracted advertising practitioners, government officials and industry stakeholders, including representatives of the Ministers of Information and National Orientation and Solid Minerals Development.
ARCON said the awards would become an annual event to recognise individuals who had made significant contributions to the development of the profession.
Emokpae, whose career spans more than three decades in marketing communications, strategic planning, media management, education and entrepreneurship, played a leading role in establishing media independent practice as a distinct professional discipline in Nigeria.
He was instrumental in the formation of the Media Independent Practitioners Association of Nigeria (MIPAN), which helped advance specialised media planning, buying, research and advertising inventory management.
He began his career at Unilever, where he rose to Senior Brand Manager for Household Cleaning Products, before joining Insight Communications as Account Director.
He subsequently moved to Troyka Holdings as pioneer Group Executive Director, Strategic Planning, and during his 13 years with the group also served as Chief Executive Officer of All Seasons Mediacom Limited, Nigeria’s first full-service media independent company.
