Renowned archivist and management expert, Mathew Simon Aboi, has launched his third book on record-keeping entitled, “A Handbook for Modern Archives and Records Management.”
The event, held at the National Press Centre, Radio House, Abuja, had friends, family associates of the author and dignitaries such as the Permanent Secretary State House, Tijjani Umar, alongside representatives of Archive Units from various Ministries Departments and Agencies (MDAs), in attendance.
Aboi, who serves as the Archivist and Record Management Desk Officer at the State House, Presidential Villa, Abuja, said his book came as response to the whole range of issues bedevilling management of records in Nigeria over the years.
He said the book explore the art of record keeping as it pertains to effective office administration and serves as a handy tool-kit for archivists and practitioners to enhance professionalism in the archives and records management industry.
“So, this book helps to guide proper management of records regardless of their quantum and also enhance the ease of doing business for MDAs,” he said.
Chief host of the event and Permanent Secretary, State House, Abuja, Tijjani Umar, lamented the poor records keeping system in Nigeria.
Book Reviewer, Prof. G.O. Alegbeleye of Babcock University, said the book was comprehensive in scope and had attempted to cover the spectrum of records and archives enterprise.
According to him, the book is unique in the literature genre and it is designed as a general overview of the field of records and archives management with the objective of educating the practitioner as well as the intelligent general reader.
Reiterating the importance of the book, Prof. Ibrahim Abbas Sodangi of the Kaduna State University, noted that the book was designed to ignite a desire for proper record creation, management, security and preservation.
The book is split into 12 chapters with exhaustive information on records acquisition, records and registry operations, records preservation and conservation.
