Late former Inspector General of Police,  Solomon Arase

The late former Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase and renowned security expert, Dr. Ona Ekhomu, will receive posthumous honour at the Gallant Officers Recognition & Welfare Initiative 2026 for their outstanding contributions to policing, security and national development.

According to the organisers, Naija Police & U (Naijapoliceu), the duo would be recognised during the virtual event scheduled for today, with the theme, “Life After Police: Building Purpose, Welfare and Opportunities Beyond Service.”

They noted that the posthumous honours were intended to celebrate the enduring legacies of the two distinguished Nigerians, whose contributions significantly impacted policing, security management and public safety in the country.

“The late IGP Solomon Arase, who served as the 18th Inspector-General of Police, is being honoured for his exemplary leadership, commitment to police reforms and dedication to professional policing.

“Similarly, the late Dr. Ona Ekhomu, widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s foremost security consultants and the founder of Transworld Security Systems, is being recognised for his pioneering contributions to the private security industry and his efforts in advancing security awareness and professionalism in Nigeria,” the Project Coordinator of the initiative, Mrs. Chioma Okezie, said, adding that the recognition was aimed at preserving the legacies of distinguished personalities, whose lives and careers continue to inspire both serving and retired security personnel.

She noted that honouring the Arase and Ekhomu would remind younger generations of officers and security practitioners of the values of professionalism, integrity, service and dedication to national development.

The event, she said, is expected to attract serving and retired police officers, security experts, stakeholders and members of the public, and will also feature presentations on retirement planning, welfare, investment opportunities and life after active service.

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, is the special guest of honour, while retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Abiodun Alabi; Dr. Victoria Ekhomu and Dr. Obinna AzoNobi are among the facilitators billed to speak at the programme.

Mrs. Igbokwe stressed that the initiative remains committed to recognising excellence, promoting welfare and creating opportunities that support officers beyond active service.

The Gallant Officers Recognition & Welfare Initiative 2026 will hold virtually via Google Meet from 11am to 2pm today, June 30.
