The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has retained leadership of the Anambra State House of Assembly by winning 24 of the 30 seats of the house in the legislative elections which held yesterday, Saturday, March 9.
People’s Democratic Party (PDP), which won the Presidential and National Assembly elections in the state, won only six seats in the state assembly election.
However, the major upset was the loss of incumbent Speaker, Hon. Rita Maduagwu to the PDP candidate in their Nnewi South II constituency.
A breakdown of the result declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) shows that in Anambra Central Senatorial District, APGA won Anaocha II, Awka North, Awka South I, Awka South II Dunukofia, Idemmili North, Idemmili South, Njikoka I and Njikoka II while the PDP won
Anaocha I.
In Anambra South, APGA won in Aguata I, Aguata II, Ihiala I, Ihiala II, Nnewi North, Nnewi South I, Orumba North and Orumba South, with the PDP winning in Ekwusigo and Nnewi South II.
Also in Anambra North, APGA won in Anambra West, Anambra East, Oyi, Onitsha North II, Onitsha South I and Onitsha South II, while PDP won in Onitsha North I, Ogbaru I and Ogbaru II constituencies.
