The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) governorship aspirant in Imo State, Okechukwu C. Okechukwu, has joined indigenes of the Egbu Ancient Kingdom to mark the annual Mgbugbuzo festival, describing the celebration as a vital cultural heritage that strengthens unity and identity.
In a goodwill message delivered during the festivities in his hometown, Okechukwu said the festival remains a symbol of the resilience, values, and enduring traditions of the Egbu people.
He commended the traditional ruler, HRM Eze Uchenna Mitchell Egbukole, the Ochoronma V of Egbu Ancient Kingdom, Ndi Oha, elders, youths, and the entire Umu-Egbu for sustaining the celebration over the years. He said preserving indigenous traditions is key to building stronger communal bonds and peaceful coexistence.
“The Mgbugbuzo Egbu Festival reminds us of our rich cultural heritage, our unity, and our collective responsibility to work for the peace and development of our community and Imo State at large,” Okechukwu said. “As a proud son of Egbu Ancient Kingdom, I am delighted to identify with my people on this special occasion.”

He noted that the festival goes beyond cultural display, as it creates an avenue for indigenes at home and in the diaspora to reunite, reflect on shared heritage, and mobilise support for the development of their ancestral home.
The APGA aspirant urged residents of Egbu to uphold values of love, integrity, and mutual respect, and to back initiatives that drive sustainable development for future generations.
He also called on all Imo residents to embrace peace, regardless of political, religious, or ethnic differences, stressing that lasting development can only thrive in an atmosphere of harmony.
Okechukwu prayed for a peaceful celebration and for continued progress and prosperity for the traditional institution and the people of Egbu Ancient Kingdom.
The Mgbugbuzo Festival is regarded as one of the foremost cultural celebrations in Egbu, drawing traditional leaders, cultural groups, sons and daughters of the kingdom, and visitors to celebrate the community’s history and customs.
