The All Progressives Congress (APC) has won 20 out of the 23 local  government areas in Rivers State in last Saturday’s election.

The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), which conducted the polls, announced candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) winners in  Obio/Akpor, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni and Port Harcourt City.

Candidates of the APC won in Ahoada East, Asari Toru, Ikwerre, Bonny, Degema, Eleme, Etche, Gokana and Khana LGAs.

Other councils included Ogu/Bolo, Opobo/Nkoro, Okrika, Emohua and Akuku Tor.

PDP in Port Harcourt City council (PHALGA) polled 235,054;

Obio/Akpor secured 328,888 votes and ONELGA – 51,051.

Atiku Abubakar’s political coalition, ADC,  struggled, recording a maximum of 40 votes in all the LGA areas.

The result showed APC consolidating dominance across the state, while the PDP remains deeply entrenched in key urban strongholds, particularly Port Harcourt City and Obio/Akpor councils.

The PDP candidate won the chairmanship seat in the Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike’s Obio/Akpor local government.

The former Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi’s ADC lost in his polling unit with zero vote.

The political parties that participated in Saturday chairmanship and councillorship elections were: APC, PDP, Labour Party (LP), All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), Zenith Party, Accord, African Action Congress Action People’s Party and Social Democratic Party (SDP).

Others were: Action Alliance, Youth Party, Young Progressive Party, Action Democratic, New Nigerian People’s Party, National Rescue Movement and Allied People’s Party.
