The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially declared Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, retired Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Mohammed Ahmed, and Jerry Joseph Damara as its senatorial candidates for the 2027 general elections in Gombe State.

The declaration followed the party’s senatorial primary elections conducted across the state on Monday, 18 May 2026.

Chairman of the APC Gombe State Primary Election Committee, Mallam Labiru Musa Kafur, announced the results during a press briefing, stating that Governor Inuwa Yahaya emerged as the party’s candidate for Gombe North Senatorial District after polling 131,009 certified affirmation votes.

Kafur said the primary election was conducted peacefully, transparently and orderly across the 11 local government areas of the state.

He explained that the exercise complied fully with the directives of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) through the direct primary system, which allowed party members at the grassroots level to participate directly in the process.

According to him, results were officially declared at the various zonal collation centres immediately after the conclusion of collation exercises, in line with party regulations and electoral guidelines.

At the Gombe North Collation Centre in Kwami Local Government Area, Governor Inuwa Yahaya was formally returned as the APC candidate after securing the highest number of lawful votes cast.

In Gombe Central Senatorial District, Mohammed Ahmed emerged as the APC candidate with 89,415 certified valid votes following the declaration at the Kumo Local Government Secretariat.

Similarly, Jerry Joseph Damara won the APC ticket for Gombe South Senatorial District after polling 56,687 certified valid votes.

The committee stated that all the candidates fulfilled the constitutional and party requirements and were validly returned as APC flag bearers for the forthcoming senatorial elections.

Kafur commended party stakeholders for what he described as the successful conduct of the exercise, adding that the process reflected a credible and transparent democratic standard.

He also reaffirmed the committee’s confidence in the legitimacy of the results, saying the outcomes reflected the will of APC members across Gombe State.
