The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has promised to upgrade its Progressive Institute to a world class standard to enable it compete with the best in its category.
Party’s national chairman, Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, made the disclosure while inaugurating the governing board of the institute at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja on Monday.
Nentawe disclosed that going forward, the Institute will henceforth undertake statutory responsibilities of serving as institutional memory of the party by documenting all its activities, party primaries, policies and decisions of the party especially decisions by the Caucus and National Executive Committee meetings, and the Conventions.
“The institute will undertake research and publication of books/journals on public policy, democratisation, good governance, leadership and related subject matters. Organise regular workshops, international and local conferences, national discourses on ideology, governance and related matters.
“Other statutory functions include working in collaboration with relevant organs of the APC to develop and execute the party’s political strategies. Undertake capacity building programmes in the following areas intra-party governance, leadership, ideology, public policy, institution building, elections and election related matter, APC values and identity, provision of platform for robust discussion within the party, between the party and the wider Nigerian society,” he enumerated.

Above all, according to him, “it will serve as the institutional memory of the APC by documenting all its activities, party primaries, policies and decisions of the party especially decisions by the Caucus and National Executive Committee meetings, the Convention etc.”
To effectively perform the responsibilities, the party’s boss, assured that the institute will be promoted to international standard, explaining: “The Council is the highest organ of the Institute whose role is fundamental to the future of the Institute especially in realizing the vision of the party and establishment goals.”
“Our desire is to establish The Progressive Institute as a world class institution that will compete with the best in its category. Permit me to emphasize that the National Chairman of the APC, i.e. my good self is the Chairman of the Governing Council.
“This was a deliberate decision of the APC to ensure that the Institute gets policy and strategic attention at the highest level of the party leadership. I want to assure you that the entirely leadership of our party, starting from our National Leader, my good self, all members of the NWC and all APC Leaders, are fully committed to give this great institution our full support and attention,” he assured.
Nentawe also defended the members, stressing: “You were carefully selected and highly recommended among thousands of qualified experts and outstanding Nigerians because of your pedigree and experiences. I have no doubt that you will contribute to our efforts to build a first class institute,” he said.
On his part, the chairman of the Institute and renowned journalist, Lanre Adebayor, had enumerated the milage the establishment has covered, describing it as the best thing to happen to the ruling party.
