Yilwatda promises to make APC party of choice for Nigerians
From Romanus Ugwu, Abuja
The members of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have received their Certificates of Return (CoR) as confirmation of their emergence at the March 28, 2026 National Convention of the ruling party held in Abuja.
Presenting the CoR to the NWC members, the Chairman of the Convention Central Co-ordination Committee, Rt. Hon. Aminu Bello Masari, wished the NWC members God’s guidance, protection, and wisdom to successfully carry out the task ahead.
Speaking during the presentation, Masari said: “Normally, parties, especially the NWC, will be under intense pressure during primaries. I hope we will be able to resist temptation and do what is right for the benefit of our party and our country.
“We have delivered, and we have issued certificates to the newly elected NWC. We urge them, and they have pledged total commitment to the APC, to Nigeria, and to the President. With the commitment of the Chairman and members of the NWC, we expect to see a renewed, motivated NWC that will do even better than before.
“If we want our country and party to progress, we must always believe we can do better tomorrow than today. That is progress. We believe this Chairman and the NWC will outperform previous committees, building on the foundation laid by past leaders and advancing the party for national development,” Masari noted.
While describing it as an exercise that will go down in history as a convention without any single litigation, APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, promised to work hard to ensure that the ruling party remains the platform of choice for Nigerians.
“I also congratulate the Convention Planning Committee for an excellent, elegant, well-organised, transparent, and one of the most beautiful conventions ever held in Nigeria. You have raised the bar beyond our imagination. I want to thank you for bringing your experience and selecting some of the best hands for the party.

“Thanks to all of you for working together to ensure that you executed the tasks given to you by the party. This convention will go down in history as one without a single litigation. It was almost as if we were at a carnival rather than a convention. The internal wrangling that used to trail conventions was completely absent.
“The Chairman, extend our regards to all your members and express our warmest and deepest gratitude for what you have done for the party. For the new NWC, we are committed to the party. The assurance I give you is that we will deepen democracy. We will uphold democracy within the party and ensure stability.
“We will continue to expand the party—keep reaching out, keep engaging, keep mobilising—to increase membership across the country. We must ensure that our party remains strong and focused. We must present clear policies, clear candidates, and a clear direction for Nigeria.
“Our responsibility is to strengthen democracy and build confidence in the political process. We will continue to work hard to ensure that our party remains the platform of choice for Nigerians.
“We assure you that this party will work towards credible elections and stronger democratic institutions. Our duty is to ensure that we deliver results at all levels—governors, senators, members of the House of Representatives and Houses of Assembly. We will put in all our energy and effort to ensure success for our candidates.
“We will also maintain strong working relationships between the party, the states, and the federal level, ensuring coordination and unity of purpose. We pledge loyalty to the party, loyalty to Nigeria, and commitment to responsible leadership. I want to thank you for your efforts and your dedication. This is a responsibility we carry with honour—a responsibility to serve our people,” Yilwatda promised.
Speaking further, he said that: “The assurance we give the party and Nigerians is that this party is strong, prepared, and ready. The NWC has been given the certificate, which is the authority to carry out the mandate entrusted to us. We will ensure that the party’s manifesto, based on progressive principles, is implemented across Nigeria for the benefit of our people.”
The Governor of Yobe and Secretary of the Committee, Mai Mala Buni, gave the opening remarks, outlining the procedure and assisting in the presentation of the CoR.
