The leadership of All Progressives Congress (APC) North West Zone under Hon. Garba Muhammad Datti has commended Justice Oyebisi Folayemi’s led panel of the Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja for declaring March 18th 2023, governorship election in Zamfara inconclusive and ordered INEC to hold a fresh election.
The fresh election will hold in Birnin Magaji, Bukkuyum and Maradun local government areas, where elections had not been held previously and where results from many polling units were not counted.
A statement by the APC Zonal Publicity Secretary (North West), Musa Mailafiya Mada said, “By this judgement the Zonal Headquarters of the APC insists that the appeal court verdict of Thursday 16th 2023, vindicated their earlier stand of rejecting the Election Petition Tribunal’s judgement where PDP and it’s candidate emerged victorious despite all the evidences presented before the lower court.
“Recall that the party at the North West Zonal level had on 20th September 2023, issued a press statement, rejecting in totality the verdict of Zamfara State Election Petition Tribunal and called on the candidate of the All Progressives Congress and current Minister of State Defence His Excellency Dr. Bello Muhammad Matawalle to as a matter of urgency approach the appeal court for redress.
“The position taken by the appeal court that the tribunal failed to properly evaluate the evidences brought before it and that the appellants placed credible evidences before the tribunal speaks volume to our conviction that the court is the last hope of a common man.
“National Vice Chairman North West of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Hon. Garba Muhammad Datti also congratulates the Hon. Minister of State Defence Bello Muhammad Matawalle on this resounding victory which stands as a step towards reclaim his stolen mandate.
“Datti also congratulates the entire APC family in Zamfara on this success especially the State’s chapter of the party for their resilience in persuing the case to this high. However, Datti urged AP C’s branch in the state to prepare themselves for cross appeal to the Apex Court even as we celebrate this verdict.
“Garba Datti insists that even though the appeal court judgement is in our favour and its enough to get us back on the saddle as we are confident that the bye election will demonstrate our strength in the state, yet we can still hope for a better outcome the Apex Court
“Datti reaffirms the commitment of the zonal Ssecretariat to support the State chapter of the party and our candidate Mr. Matawalle every step of the way.”
