The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ajibola Basiru, has mocked former Vice President Atiku Abubakar after a photograph appeared to show him dozing off during the opposition leaders’ summit in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The meeting, held on Saturday, brought together key opposition figures seeking to build a united front ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Among those at the summit were Atiku, Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi, former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi, and former Kwara State Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed.

Basiru seized on a photograph from the gathering, posting it on his X account with a pointed remark aimed at the former vice president.

“And the opposition leader slept at the all-important opposition summit,” he wrote.

The APC chieftain also used the same image to dismiss suggestions that the ruling party was worried by the opposition’s renewed push for a coalition ahead of the next general election.

The Ibadan meeting is one of several consultations under way as opposition leaders explore the possibility of presenting a single candidate to challenge the APC in 2027.
