The Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Ogbomoso South Local Government Area of Oyo State has recorded a fresh boost ahead of the 2027 general elections following the defection of several All Progressives Congress (APC) members and political leaders to the party.
The defection, which took place on Tuesday, reportedly involved thousands of APC members led by four former councillors loyal to Boye Nation political movement formally announced their movement into the APM.
The defectors included Hon. Sunday Afilu, former councillor representing Akata Ward 1; Hon. Omotola Sunday, former councillor representing Arowomole Ward 3; Hon. Ajayi Rowland, former councillor representing Ijeru 1, Ward 5; and Hon. Sola Adebayo, former councillor representing Ilogbo Ward 7, all in Ogbomoso South Local Government.
The new members were received into the APM by party leaders, including M.A. Oguntoye, Hon. Taiwo Alagba, the APM chairman in Ogbomoso South Local Government, members of the local executive committee and all ward executives.
Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Afilu cited what he described as inequality and lack of accountability within the APC as some of the reasons for their decision to leave the party.
He said the defectors were seeking a political platform where members would be treated fairly and allowed to participate meaningfully in the affairs of the party.
Receiving the defectors, Alagba welcomed them to the APM and assured them of a conducive political environment within the party.
According to him, the APM has level-headed leadership capable of accommodating and treating its members fairly.
Alagba assured the defectors that they would receive better treatment in their new political home, urging them to work with other members to strengthen the party’s grassroots structure in Ogbomoso South.
