The national leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has launched a sarcastic job hunt for former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, appealing to employers in Rivers State to engage him and rescue him from alleged destitution outside public office.

The ruling party made the appeal in a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, while reacting to Amaechi’s claim that he could not afford the medication required for the treatment of his late mother.

After praying for the repose of Dame Ezinne Mary Oduah Amaechi, the APC wished her son “excellent health of mind and body,” noting that he had served two terms each as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, governor of the state and Minister of Transportation.

The party then urged employers in Amaechi’s hometown of Ubima, Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State, to provide him with a suitable job that would pay enough for him to feed and purchase medication for himself and his family throughout his retirement.

“It is our sincere wish that employers of labour in his hometown of Ubima in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State may find him suitable for a job that pays wages sufficient for him to feed and buy medications for himself and his beloved family for the rest of his retirement. Amen,” it said.

The APC expressed surprise that Amaechi could allegedly become destitute and unable to provide for himself and his family barely three years after leaving public office.

“Rotimi Amaechi’s uncanny confessions must not be missed. First, he howled that he had become so broke and hungry that his wife was now feeding him. Now, he has stated that his inability to afford medications killed his mother at 89,” Morka said.

He added: “For four decades, Rotimi Amaechi freeloaded at the highest levels of public office. He was never hungry and could afford medications for himself and his family. Just three years out of office, he has become destitute, unable to fend for himself and his loved ones.

“If Amaechi is not struggling with some kind of Peter Pan syndrome, then he must be a loafer, aimless and irresponsible for his inability to be productive and earn a living outside the patronage of public office.”

The ruling party also questioned Amaechi’s aspiration to become vice-president in 2027, arguing that his claims had raised doubts about his fitness for the office.

“The same Rotimi Amaechi now asks Nigerians to make him vice-president come 2027 so he can continue and keep the predatory lifestyle he has grown accustomed to.

“The presidency is not a soup kitchen and will not be a soup kitchen for Rotimi Amaechi. There can be no better speaker of Rotimi Amaechi’s unfitness for the office of vice-president than Rotimi Amaechi himself,” the APC declared.

Amaechi had, during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, blamed the economic policies of President Bola Tinubu’s administration for the country’s hardship, claiming that the rising cost of medication made it difficult for him to provide the drugs required by his mother before her death.
