With the inauguration of the Transportation Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) today in Abuja, the party has drawn the battle line for the 2026 presidential contest.

Inaugurating the committee, the chairman, Senator Dave Umahi, explained that the accommodation and transportation committee has been divided into two for effective management.

While he heads the transportation committee, the accommodation committee is headed by the governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf.

However, while Yusuf functions as his vice in the transportation committee, Umahi will support Yusuf in the accommodation committee.

Both committees are expected to plan, coordinate and oversee all logistics relating to the accommodation and movement of delegates, officials, special guests and accredited participants for the APC National Convention 2026.

“The committee’s role is critical to ensuring the smooth, orderly, and efficient movement and comfort of participants, thereby contributing to the overall success of the convention.

“In this regard, the committee shall be responsible for the following key functions: accommodation planning and coordination; hotel engagement and room allocation.

“The committee shall engage with hotels and other accommodation facilities to negotiate block bookings, develop room allocation frameworks, and coordinate rooming lists for different categories of participants, including VIPs, delegates and officials,” Umahi said.

On transportation logistics and movement planning, the committee shall plan and coordinate transportation arrangements for delegates, officials and special guests, including airport pick-up and drop-off services, shuttle movements between hotels and the convention venue, and other necessary mobility arrangements.

The group is also expected to be involved in fleet management, vehicle deployment and coordination of arrival and departure logistics.

The committee shall mobilise and manage vehicles required for convention operations, including vehicles for VIPs, shuttle services, logistics movements and operational support, as well as VIP and special guest logistics support.

“Our leaders and special guests must be properly accommodated.

“Transportation between hotels, airports and the convention venue must be well coordinated.

“When these logistics work smoothly, the convention proceeds seamlessly. When they fail, even the most carefully planned event can be disrupted.

“It is therefore the responsibility of this committee to ensure that the accommodation and transportation arrangements for the convention are properly planned, well coordinated and professionally executed.

“Our task will involve coordinating hotel accommodation for party leadership, delegates and special guests; arranging transportation for VIPs and delegates; managing airport reception and transfers; and ensuring efficient movement between hotels and the convention venue.

“Given the scale of the convention and the number of participants expected from across the federation, this will require careful planning, strong coordination and timely execution.

“Today’s meeting is therefore intended to enable us to formally commence our work, review the committee’s terms of reference, consider the proposed operational structure, examine the preliminary logistics plan, and agree on the next steps required to deliver on our mandate.

“I would like to emphasise that time is of the essence. Early planning will enable us to secure hotel capacity, mobilise transportation resources, and establish the operational coordination systems required for the convention.

“I am confident that, with the experience, commitment and leadership represented in this committee, we will work together to ensure that the APC 2026 National Convention is conducted in an organised, efficient and successful manner,” Umahi said.
