The All Progressives Congress (APC) has inaugurated the National Central Coordinating Committee for its 2026 National Convention at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja, marking another significant milestone in the progressive journey of the party.

Speaking at the inauguration, the National Chairman of the APC, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, described the occasion as a defining moment that underscores the party’s enduring commitment to democratic values, internal democracy and organisational excellence.

“Today marks another moment in the progressive journey of our great party. A convention such as ours is not merely a gathering; it is an affirmation of our democratic ethos, a celebration of our internal democracy and a clear demonstration to Nigerians that the APC remains the most organised, forward-looking and viable political platform in the country,” the National Chairman stated.

He highlighted the party’s recent electoral successes as proof of its strength and capacity to deliver, citing decisive victories recorded in recent by-elections across the country, including strong performances in the Federal Capital Territory, Kano State and Rivers State. According to him, these outcomes have further affirmed the APC’s dominance and dispel unfounded claims by opposition elements. The APC chairman expressed confidence in the leadership of the Convention Committee, noting that it is chaired by a statesman of exceptional pedigree, Aminu Bello Masari, former Governor of Katsina State.

He commended Masari’s decades of experience, integrity and deep understanding of party administration, describing his acceptance of the assignment as a demonstration of selfless service to the party and the nation.

“To all members of this committee, you have been carefully selected because of your proven integrity, wealth of experience and unwavering commitment to the ideals of our party. You have been entrusted with the responsibility to plan and deliver a convention that is transparent, inclusive, and credible, one befitting a ruling party of the APC’s stature,” Professor Yilwatda charged.

He assured the committee of the full support of the National Working Committee (NWC) and the entire party structure, stressing that all necessary resources, cooperation and goodwill would be provided to ensure the successful delivery of their mandate.

“With these words and on behalf of the National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress, I hereby declare the APC National Convention 2026 process formally inaugurated,” the National Chairman concluded.

Responding on behalf of the Committee, the Chairman of the National Central Coordinating Committee, Masari thanked the leadership of the APC and President Bola Tinubu for the confidence reposed in the committee members.

“We accept this responsibility with humility, a strong sense of duty and firm commitment to the ideals and aspirations of our great party,” Masari said.

He acknowledged key members of the committee, including former Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim as Vice Chairman; the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq; Governor of Imo State and Secretary to the Progressive Governors’ Forum, Hope Uzodimma; former Governor of Borno State, Mai Mala Buni, who will serve as Secretary and an elder statesman and pioneer National Chairman of the APC, Bisi Akande, who graciously accepted to serve as a distinguished member of the committee.

Masari noted that a national convention is not merely a statutory exercise but a defining moment in the life of a political party, one that provides an opportunity for reflection, consolidation, renewal and recommitment to the principles that bind members together.

“The task before us is clear: to coordinate all activities leading to a peaceful, credible and successful 2026 National Convention. We will approach this assignment with maturity, fairness and strict adherence to the APC Constitution and guidelines,” he assured.

He emphasised that the committee would work closely with the National Working Committee and all relevant organs of the party to ensure inclusiveness, transparency, discipline and respect for internal democracy. He further pledged that the committee would act impartially, consult widely and place the collective interest of the APC above personal ambitions.

“A successful convention will not only strengthen our internal cohesion but also reinforce public confidence in our party as a disciplined, democratic and responsible platform capable of providing leadership for Nigeria,” Masari concluded.

The inauguration of the National Central Coordinating Committee formally sets the stage for the APC’s 2026 National Convention, a process widely expected to further consolidate the party’s unity and renew its collective resolve ahead of future political engagements.
