A group of the All Progressives Congress (APC) members has opposed the planned defection of the Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Mohammed, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the party.

In a statement issued in Abuja yesterday, the APC Solidarity Group and Allied Associations, Bauchi State, said a petition had already been written to the National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, adducing 10 reasons the Governor Mohammed should be disallowed from joining the party.

The statement jointly signed by its Director of Programmes and External Affairs, I.B. Muhammad, and Secretary, Abubakar Abdullahi, stated: “As the 2027 general elections approach, it has become necessary to carefully safeguard the strength, credibility, and internal cohesion of the APC in Bauchi State.

“We wish to humbly present the following concerns against the possible admission of Senator Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir into our party, it stated.

The group noted that Bala Governor Mohammed had consistently made public statements criticizing the Federal Government of causing hardship and insecurity in the country, which undermines the party’s image.

It added that the Bala administration had lost the goodwill and confidence of many citizens in Bauchi State, warning that admitting him could potentially create divisions and disrupt the existing unity within the party structure in Bauchi State.

However, the group called on the APC’s national chairman to ensure that everybody works for the party’s success in the 2027 general elections, not only in Bauchi State but Nigeria as a whole. “The time to prove that numerically, politically, spread-wise and considering all other variables Bauchi State is an APC state is now and only a good winning of forthcoming elections will settle any doubt on this Mr. Chairman.

“We challenge ourselves to make a vow in Allah’s name that nothing will shake our resolve to get the party emerge victorious. May God Almighty help us,” it said.
