APC going against Nigerians’ will on e-transmission — Adepoju

Hon. Anthony Adepoju, a legislator for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) representing Oyo State’s Ibarapa Central/North Federal Constituency, has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of acting against Nigerians’ will on e-transmission.

Adepoju stated on Tuesday night’s episode of ARISE News that Nigerians have made it clear they want credible and transparent elections, and that real-time transmission of results is important for rebuilding trust in the country’s democratic process.

“We want Nigeria to have trust in our democracy and elect the leaders that they want. What played out in the National Assembly is the APC trying to go against what Nigerians want,” he said.

According to Adepoju, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is technically capable of e-transmission of election results in real time. He maintained that improving digital transmission would boost public trust in election results, lessen post-election disputes, and decrease manipulation.

The lawmaker’s comments come amid intense deliberations in the National Assembly on amendments to the Electoral Act, particularly provisions on electronic transmission and fallback options in the event of network challenges.
