The screening subcommittee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the party’s national convention has cleared the National Chairman, Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda; National Secretary, Ajibola Basiru; Deputy National Organising Secretary, Nze Chidi Duru; and National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, among other members of the National Working Committee (NWC), to participate in this weekend’s exercise.
While many of them, including the chairman, secretary, and deputy national secretary, were told to take a bow and go by members of the screening subcommittee headed by the Ekiti State Governor and former Governor of Abia State, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, some other national officers were screened for a few minutes before being allowed to leave.
Other national officers who appeared before the screening committee include the National Welfare Secretary, Donatus Nwankpa; National Organising Secretary, Suleiman Argungu; National Treasurer, Matthew Uguru; Deputy National Chairmen, Emma Eneukwu and Buka Dalori, among others, including challengers such as Ben Nwoye.
Speaking to newsmen on the sidelines after their screening, the duo of Yilwatda and Ajibola expressed satisfaction at emerging unopposed, describing it as a challenge to deliver greater productivity in repositioning the party.
According to Ajibola, “We have been able to ensure a functional and effective secretariat for our party, with an efficient and group-based capital for enlarging the capacity of the party. In terms of the process of the party, the conduct of primaries and organisation of activities, we have been able to ensure that we have brought a seamless and safe competence into that office.

“As I told the screening committee, one of the tasks that we have to do is to consolidate the strength of the party and to ensure that our party structure, from the polling units up to the national convention, becomes very active. Particularly, the National Advisory Council of our party needs to be activated immediately after the convention.
“And we believe that if we activate all our structures and make them functionally efficient, APC will continue to remain forward with electoral friction and democratic consolidation. I am the only aspirant for that position, and we believe that the convention will be peaceful and is going to be one of the most colourful and eventful conventions of any political party in Nigeria.
“And that is why the party has assembled eminent personalities and empowered them to work to ensure that we have a very colourful, eventful, educative and very democratic convention on Friday and Saturday this week,” he said.
On his part, the National Chairman said: “I have subjected myself to the committee that I set up myself. It shows you the kind of political party that we are having in the APC. We are more than prepared for the convention, and as you can see, the committees are making all the preparations so that we ensure that we have a hitch-free convention.
“I have worked with the committees. They have raised enough resources to ensure that the implementation of the programmes and processes that we have go hitch-free. I think we don’t have an issue with the convention itself,” he said.
