APC convention: Journalists fight for access tags amid chaotic event

Tension flared in Abuja on Friday as journalists scrambled for accreditation at the All Progressives Congress (APC) convention, with chaotic scenes unfolding at the Transcorp Hilton venue.

The disruption occurred at Kano Hall, where over 100 journalists—both accredited and non-accredited—stormed the area in a desperate bid to secure access tags for the high-profile event.

Trouble began after the coordinator in charge of tag distribution announced that only a limited number of tags were available, noting that most allocated to APC correspondents had already been issued.

The announcement sparked outrage among journalists, many of whom accused organisers of poor planning and lack of transparency in the accreditation process, leading to heated exchanges and visible unrest.

Security operatives from the Nigeria Police Force were eventually deployed to restore order and prevent a breakdown of law and order.

As of the time of filing this report, APC officials had yet to respond to the incident, which has continued to draw criticism from affected media personnel.
