An All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain in Edo State, Elias Inaede, has commended Governor Monday Okpebholo for what he described as a clear demonstration of youth inclusiveness in governance with the emergence of Cephas Yakubu as acting chairman of Etsako Central Local Government Council.
Inaede, immediate past APC publicity secretary of Etsako Central Local Government Area, made the commendation in a statement following the impeachment of the former executive chairman and vice chairman of the council over allegations of gross misconduct—a development he said marked a defining moment in the council’s political history.
According to him, the constitutional process paved the way for a new phase of leadership anchored on youth, competence and service, culminating in the swearing-in of Yakubu as Acting Chairman in January 2025.
Inaede described Yakubu, reputed to be the youngest council chairman in Edo State and Nigeria, as a practical demonstration of Governor Okpebholo’s commitment to youth empowerment under the SHINE Agenda.
“His emergence has brought renewed hope and joy to the people of Etsako Central Local Government Area.
“Driven by passion for service and community development, he ventured into politics and was elected Councillor representing Ward 9, where he was unanimously chosen as Leader of the Etsako Central Legislative Arm,” he said.

Inaede noted that Yakubu’s tenure as leader of the legislative arm was characterised by unity, effective leadership and broad-based support from his colleagues. Since assuming office as Acting Chairman following the impeachment, Yakubu has focused on fostering unity across communities while pursuing grassroots development, the APC chieftain said.
He listed some of the administration’s achievements to include the construction of a block of six classrooms, 30 open market stalls, installation of an industrial power borehole and the reconstruction of the council abattoir.
In the health sector, Inaede said Yakubu’s people-oriented leadership has manifested through impactful medical outreach programmes, adding that Etsako Central Local Government was recognised as the best local government in HPV vaccination and cervical cancer prevention.
“The award underscores his administration’s commitment to public health and the wellbeing of the people,” he stated.
The APC chieftain further described Yakubu as a worker-friendly chairman who has ensured the prompt payment of salaries and arrears, while also promoting improved security, religious tolerance and peaceful coexistence among residents of different faiths.
According to Inaede, within just one year in office, Yakubu’s visible achievements and inclusive approach to governance have earned him widespread acceptance and trust across the local government.
“Rt. Hon. Cephas Yakubu stands today as one of the finest Local Government Chairmen Etsako Central has produced and a clear testament to Governor Monday Okpebholo’s vision of empowering young people to lead and deliver,” he said.
