The All Progressives Congress gubernatorial candidate on Sokoto State, Hon. Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto has promised to clear all the backlog of gratuity owed the state government if elected as governor of the state.
He gave this assurance while addressing party supporters who turned up for an APC campaign rally in Shagari local government area of the state.
Aliyu who expressed concern over the plight of many retirees who served the State diligently but are yet to get their gratuity despite hundreds of millions received by the state government in respect of payment of gratuity.
While describing the situation as very pathetic, the APC candidate however promised to clear all the backlog of gratuity owed the state government if elected.
“We are all aware that president Muhammadu Buhari has given the states bailouts with a view clear the backlog of gratuity owed their states, but here in Sokoto the bailouts was not used for that purpose it was meant for,” he revealed
“Despite this gesture by the federal government, the state government went ahead and took loans from banks in the name of clearing the backlog of gratuity of retirees in the state,” he added
“I assure you that if you elect us into office we will get to the root of this matter in order to find out why all our retirees could not be paid their benefits,” he revealed
The APC candidate also assured retirees in the state of prompt payment of their pension if elected.
“We understand that our retirees no longer get their pension in time,this we must change if we are given the mandate.” Aliyu averred
In his remarks, Chairman Sokoto State APC gubernatorial campaign rally senator Aliyu Wamakko expressed dismay over the way the present administration neglected rural areas.
According to him, rural development has recorded a serious setback under the PDP administration in the state.
“Rural development was one of our priority areas during my administration and that’s why we succeeded in bringing basic amenities to different communities in the state,” Wamakko said.
Also addressing a tumultuous crowd that attended APC rally in yabo local government, the APC candidate promised to re-introduce the zonal skills acquisition programme introduced by Wamakko’s administration.
He expressed dismay over the abandonment of the training centers spread across the three senatorial zones of the state.
He underscored the contributions of those training centers in making youths and women gainfully employed, thereby reducing redundancy among the vulnerable in the state.
