APC asks Tinubu to impose state of emergency in Rivers

By Seyi Babalola

The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has asked President Bola Tinubu to impose a state of emergency in the state.

Leadership reports that the appeal comes amid an ongoing political crisis over the tenures of the state’s 23 local government chairs.

Chief Tony Okocha, the APC’s Caretaker Committee Chairman in Rivers State, made the statement while speaking to media on Wednesday in Port Harcourt, the state’s capital.

He cautioned that allowing the problem to develop will undoubtedly have an impact on Nigeria’s economy, given the state’s prominence in the country.

Daily Sun recalls that Governor Fubara had earlier on Wednesday sworn in caretaker committees to head the local governments after the expiration on Monday of the three-year tenure of the former officeholders.
