Leadership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ife Federal Constituency of Osun State has passed a vote of no confidence in the Deputy Governor, Kola Adewusi, the former national secretary of the party, Prof. Wale Oladipo and the PDP chairman of Ife East Local Government, Olasunkanmi Makinde.

A communiqué dated September 1, and jointly signed by the Commissioner for Education, Dipo Eluwole; Commissioner for Inter-Party Affairs, Dr. Biyi Odunlade and 37 others, yesterday, accused the three leaders of fraternising with a member of the House of Representatives, Taofik Ajilesoro, who has left for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The communiqué read: “That the party is dissatisfied with the actions and conduct of Ajilesoro, member of the House of Representatives, who defected from the party with the mandate freely given to him by our people.

“That party leaders condemn the invitation of thugs and hoodlums to the Ife Federal Constituency meeting by the party chairman, Makinde, purportedly on the instructions of Prof. Wale Oladipo. This meeting was earlier scheduled to be held at the residence of the deputy governor.

“That the leadership is equally disappointed by the continued fraternity of Prof. Oladipo, the Deputy Governor, Prince Kola Adewusi, and the Ife East PDP Chairman, Makinde (a.k.a Benco), with Ajilesoro, who has since defected from the party.

“That in Ife East, the party is enraged that loyal members, such as Lawrence Omotosho, Adeyinka Adeniji, Yakubu Olawusi, and others, who openly disassociated themselves from Ajilesoro, following his defection, are being continuously victimised by being relieved of their government and party positions. More importantly, party meetings in Ife East Local Government have been put on hold by these leaders, thereby weakening party activities in the area.

“In view of the above, which amount to anti-party activities and pose grave danger to the success of the party in Ifeland, the meeting hereby resolves that a vote of no confidence is passed on Prof. Oladipo, the Deputy Governor, Prince Kola Adewusi and the PDP chairman of Ife East Local Government, Makinde.”

When contacted, Prof. Oladipo described those who signed the communiqué as ‘a bunch of jesters.’

He maintained that they didn’t have the power they are trying to arrogate to themselves, saying most of them are not members of the PDP.

“They are a set of jesters. Most of them are not members of the party. I will never become an enemy of anybody.

“If they are so sure, I challenge them to address a press conference and tell the world their position and their contribution to the party,” Oladipo said.

The state chairman of the PDP, Sunday Bisi, directed the parties involved in the matter to maintain status quo and surrender to the conflict resolution mechanism of the party.

In a statement, the party directed all members and stakeholders in Ife Federal Constituency to immediately suspend further actions capable of escalating the situation, saying: “The state chapter of the PDP reiterates its respect and high regard for leaders of the party, particularly Adewusi, Deputy Governor of Osun State and Prof Oladipo, member of the PDP Board of Trustees.
