Anthony Joshua was taken to hospital with minor injuries after being involved in a fatal car crash in Nigeria in which two people died.

Anthony Joshua has been hospitalised after sustaining minor injuries in a tragic car accident in Nigeria, which claimed the lives of two people. Reports suggest that the former heavyweight champion was involved in a collision with a stationary lorry while travelling on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway in southwestern Nigeria.

Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn, who is currently holidaying in the Caribbean, spoke to Express Sport about the incident. He had just learned about the crash but confirmed that Joshua was OK and en route to the hospital. However, he did not have any additional details to share at this time.

A local news source reported that Joshua, who was seated in the back of the vehicle, suffered minor injuries in the accident. It is understood that Joshua was part of a two-car convoy, including a Pajero SUV and a Lexus SUV, with his security detail following in another vehicle.

The Times has reported that Joshua’s vehicle veered into the lorry after a tyre burst, causing the driver to lose control. Local police are now investigating the incident.

Joshua was pictured looking dazed and in pain following the incident as he was helped out of the heavily damaged car. In another statement, Hearn said: “I am away on a family holiday and awoke to the news of this incident.

“We are trying to contact Anthony and in the meantime we don’t want to speculate on how he is but thankfully he appears OK from what I have seen in the images. We are awaiting more information on what has happened and will update in due course.”
