Residents of Maitama in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) yesterday, witnessed another earth tremor; in the early hours of the day.

In a statement from the National Geological Survey Agency (NGSA), preliminary findings indicated that the incident occurred around 12:26pm, around the vicinity of Panama Street in Maitama District.
NGSA stated that after field evaluations and on-the-spot assessments, it was determined that the intensity was about 3.0 on the Mercalli Intensity Scale, which means it was felt indoors and lasted less than one minute.
“An internal response protocol was immediately activated and relevant government agencies and stakeholders were informed. These were the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the FCT. These agencies responded promptly and arrived at the scene, which was reassuring to the residents of the locality.
“Further inspections revealed no structural damage because of the shake and hence, NEMA was briefed by the NGSA.
“Residents were consequently reassured that there was no cause for panic.
“The NGSA technical team are conducting further assessment exercises and will continue to update the public on any other developments.”
