Oil-rich Angola and Gabon are making a serious move to lure Éric Chelle away from his position with the Super Eagles, leveraging their financial power from petrol dollars as they emerge as frontrunners for the coach renowned for securing a bronze medal at AFCON 2025.

South African sports journalist Kamogelo Motecwane confirmed this development on his official X account (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, stating: “Eric Chelle is in demand after AFCON with Nigeria. Having declined Tunisia, Angola and Gabon are now pursuing the 48-year-old, with discussions with the NFF anticipated soon.”
Chelle’s current contract with the Super Eagles runs until 2027, and he is set to meet with the Nigeria Football Federation in the coming days to evaluate his future.
