President General of Isiagu community, Udochukwu Nnebedum, has empowered 16  traders with micro-credit grants and enrolled 100 indigent residents of the community into the Anambra State Health Insurance Scheme to the tune of N2.5 million.

Mnebedum made the enrolment and distributed the grants to beneficiaries during this year’s Ogbuobodobo August meeting of the women of the town at Afor Isiagu Market square.

The president general, who spoke about his commitment to promoting women’s empowerment and financial inclusion, said he believed his gesture would help women, particularly the beneficiaries, to enjoy financial freedom as soon as their businesses took shape.

Nnebedum said he decided to enrol the indigent members of his community into the health insurance scheme because he understood the importance of good health to the progress and development of any community.

While disbursing the funds, president general said the gesture was his personal contribution to the development of his town and in support of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s human capital development initiatives, especially with the bitting economy.

He said beneficiaries were selected from all the wards in community, as he announced his plans to increase the micro-credit fund to support more beneficiaries.

He lauded the state government for flagging off the second phase of the one youth, two skills initiative which the community benefitted from and called on members of the community to ensure massive support for the All Progressives Grand Alliance-led administration as it has provided them dividends of democracy over the years.

Also speaking, the president general of the women wing, Bibian Onwura, described Nnebedum as one who is committed to the welfare of others.

Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Chioma Nwosu, commended the president general for particularly looking out for women as “it goes to show that Isiagu people also take care of their own.”
