In a bold move to transform Anambra State’s aviation sector, Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo has commissioned a new Protocol Lounge at Chinua Achebe International Cargo and Passenger Airport, Umueri, and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to comprehensive aviation infrastructure development.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Governor Soludo described the project as part of a multi-phased plan to modernise facilities, enhance passenger experience and position the airport to attract regional and international traffic.

He said modernising aviation infrastructure remains a critical pillar of his administration’s agenda, with direct benefits in job creation, skills development and improved air connectivity.

“By upgrading our airport infrastructure and delivering a world-class Protocol Lounge, we are not only improving passenger experience but also signalling to investors that Anambra is open for business. This is about jobs, growth and sustainable development for our people,” the governor stated.

He stressed the importance of sustained collaboration with federal authorities and international aviation partners to ensure full compliance with global standards and best practices.

The newly commissioned Protocol Lounge is designed to provide a secure, comfortable and efficient space for visiting dignitaries, government officials and high-profile travellers, featuring dedicated check-in counters, executive seating, exclusive waiting areas and enhanced security protocols.

The Commissioner for Transportation, Barr. Patricia Igwebuike, said the upgraded facilities would significantly boost commerce, tourism and investment in Umueri and across Anambra State.

Chinua Achebe International Cargo and Passenger Airport continues to be a focal point of the state’s aviation ambitions, with the new lounge forming part of ongoing modernisation efforts to align Anambra with contemporary international aviation standards.
