Tansian University, Umunya, Anambra State is witnessing a big relief in funding and infrastructure gaps presently through the intervention of an alumnus and renowned philanthropist, High Chief Christopher Ndubuisi (Ikenga Umuawulu).

Last weekend, the philanthropist, at a special N5 billion fundraising ceremony organised by the university, made a N2 billion infrastructural commitment to the institution towards revitalising academic research, providing a conducive learning environment, and lighting up the university.

In a landmark move that drew applause from guests and students, the philanthropist disclosed that he and his family would undertake the construction and donation of a modern lecture building, a kilometre internal road network, and a megawatt electricity project for the university, all to be completed within one year.

He noted that the gesture was his own way of giving back to the institution that shaped his academic journey, having obtained both his Bachelor’s Degree and Doctorate from the university.

Ikenga Umuawulu, in a remark, praised the university management, the Governing Council, and the board for their resilience and dedication towards sustaining the institution.

He described the fundraising initiative as long overdue, stressing that Tansian University possesses enormous potential to become one of the leading private universities in Nigeria, if supported by committed investors and the alumni.

“The truth of the matter is that private and faith-based universities like Tansian University cannot succeed in its mission and vision as a tertiary institution without the support of public spirited individuals, corporate bodies, committed alumni members with contacts and other like-minds.

“Education in Nigeria, just like other sectors in the country, today, are beset with various challenges. The funding and infrastructural gaps inherent in those institutions that are not funded directly by government require the collective drive and support of all and sundry. I am proud of Tansian University, having contributed immensely in shaping my world view in education.

We can only strive to do more for the institution and never relent in ensuring that the academic and moral lights of the university continue to tower above its contemporaries” Chief Christopher Ndubisi stated.

Chief Ndubuisi, who served as chairman of the occasion, attended the event alongside his wife, Lolo Joy Ndubuisi, and also officially commissioned the 100 solar-powered street lights he donated to the university, describing it as the beginning of a vision to light up the institution to global recognition.

The Vice Chancellor of Tansian University, Prof. Eugene Nwadialor, described the benevolent gestures of Ikenga Umuawulu to the university as a big relief. He said the philanthropist has made their heavy burdens lighter by his donations and immeasurable support.

He assured of the commitment of the university management in judicious handling of every resource donated to the institution to good use, transparency, and accountability.

In appreciation of his exceptional contributions and unwavering support, the university management honoured Ikenga Umuawulu with an award recognising him as the “Pillar” of the university.
