Tricycle operators, also known as Keke riders, in Anambra State, under the auspices of AKDF, have accused staffers at designated point of sale of indiscriminate hike of prices of riders permit.
The Anambra State Commissioner for Transport, Hon, Edward Ibuzo, had, on July 27, 2026, announced the imposition of the Riders Permit in the state. Hon Ibuzo stated that the rider’s permit could be obtained at six different locations across the state at the rate of N5, 250.00.
The directive affects tricycle operators and motorcycle operators, also known as okada riders, whether private, commercial, corporate, or government riders.
However, tricycle operators, at the end of their weekly meeting, through their Secretary, U. Umeh, in Awka, complained bitterly that the operators who had gone to the stipulated points could not obtain the document as a result of the price haven been inflated by staffs at different locations and centres.

The AKDF members alleged that the price of the riders permit was inflated to N9, 000.00, N12, 000.00, and N15, 000.00 at different locations across the state. The group expressed the readiness of her members to comply with the commissioner for transport’s directive, but added that they were only ready to pay the stipulated price announced by the commissioner.
Similarly, some okada riders, who spoke on the grounds of anonymity, said that they will not allow greedy public servants to take advantage of them. They, therefore, appealed to the commissioner for transport to call the public servants saddled with the responsibility of selling the riders permit to order.
The okada riders also expressed their willingness to comply with the commissioner’s directive only if the agents selling the riders permit for the government are cautioned and directed to stick with the price mentioned in the announcement.
