Anambra guber: Moghalu assures foolproof security architecture in governance

Moghalu

From David Onwuchekwa, Nnewi

Labour Party Governorship Aspirant in the November 8, 2025 election in Anambra State, Chief George Moghalu, has marshalled out things he would do differently to ensure better governance in the State.

Moghalu, a frontline contender in the upcoming election while addressing newsmen in Nnewi said his administration would give priority to security of lives and property as one of the factors that would usher in sustainable development in Anambra.

He disclosed that he would overhaul the security architecture in Anambra, to come up with a better arrangement in line with the situation on ground, adding that the current security challenge in the State called for concern.

His words: “Part of the measures I will adopt to checkmate insecurity in the State is to reorganize the local vigilance groups, train them on intelligence gathering, fire arms handling and other vital areas necessary. That will be done without compromise and there should be insurance scheme put in place for the operatives.

“Better remuneration will also be put in place for the group to make it attractive, so that graduates can be interested in the service. We have enough military and paramilitary personnel in the state to assist in the training of the operatives.

“We will also encourage the communities to be proactive on the issue of security and other allied matters. The truth is that the leadership of every community knows the bad eggs among themselves.

We will encourage the communities to be part of the efforts to secure their environment by strengthening the vigilance groups.

“Traditional institutions would be encouraged and strengthened under my watch as Anambra State Governor.

“At the moment, the State government takes all the money that belongs to the local government areas, so how do we expect the council chairmen to perform their civic responsibilities to their different councils especially in area of security?

“Security is technologically-driven all over the world. Under my watch as the governor of Anambra State, our dear state would not be left behind. I believe that no amount is too much to be invested in the security of lives and property.

Speaking further, he said that organizing investment summit without effective security arrangements was a complete waste of time and resources because the targeted investors would not take their investment to insecure environment, stressing that adequate security must be in place for such moves to work.

He conceded that that there is nothing bad in putting CCTV cameras at strategic points on the roads across the state.

On the continued detention of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, which is said to have been responsible for ceaseless security challenges in the South East, Chief Moghalu appealed to the Federal Government to adopt a political solution to Kanu’s issue and get him released.

“I have prayed and begged for the release of Kanu. Political solution will be the most appropriate measure. There is so much anger in the polity, killing ourselves just to make a point, this is not acceptable,” Chief Moghalu said.
