The Anambra State Deputy Governor, Dr. Onyeka Ibezim has commended
Ichie Chimezie Nwankwo, the MD/CEO Bigly Oil & Gas Ltd and Chairman Abig Nwankwo Foundation for initiating grassroots football tournament in Okija community in Ihiala local government area of the state.
Ibezim who made the commendation while presenting a cheque of N1 million to the winners of the football competition Umuhu Obi area club, said the sports development is the key to emerging economy and a unifying factor of the people.
He charged other good spirited individuals in the state to invest and sponsor grassroots sports in order to catch them young, to discover their talents early, to earn a living and become professional footballers.
In his remarks, the sponsor of the tournament and chairman of the foundation, Ichie Nwankwo said that his goal and desire was to see a united and progressive Okija youths at their various endeavours especially in sports development.
He further pledged that in the coming years the competition will have a new look with a first prize of brand new hummer bus, other Cash prizes and a sponsorship of 3 players to seek their football career abroad.
According to him, ‘it is wise to unite the youths of my town under a football competition and to empower them through sports and football in particular”.
Also in his remarks, the Chairman of Cubana groups, Chief Obinna Iyiegbu applauded the kind gesture of the foundation by investing in sports empowerment.
The winner of the tournament was Umuhu Obi area who received cash prize of (N1million), second was Ofor na Ngwu Obi with (N500, 000) and Ubahumonum Obi Area came third with cash prize of (N300, 000) respectively.
The final match of the tournament was witnessed and watched by some government officials and other personalities.
