Anambra State government has said that it would no longer tolerate the construction of speed bumps on its roads unless it gave an approval for such.
Commissioner for Information and Value Reformation, Dr. Law Mefor, in a statement, said that individuals and communities “are no longer permitted to construct speed bumps on public roads without prior approval.”

He listed a number of requirements that must be met before any individual or a community would be allowed to construct a speed bump anywhere in the state.
“All speed bumps and their locations must be approved by the State Government. A uniform design for speed bumps will now have to be sought from the State’s Ministry of Works and Infrastructure.
“Speed bumps will be restricted to critical areas such as markets, churches, schools, and other locations as determined by the government,” the statement read partly.
Mefor made it clear that it would be an offence to construct speed bumps without authorisation or outside approved locations, adding that the decision was taken because indiscriminate installation of speed bumps has adverse effects on road infrastructure and safety.
