Anambra 2027: Williams flags off ADC ward secretariats in Idemili

Ahead of the 2027 general election, an oil and gas business development consultant, Mr. Gini Chukwuma Williams, has flagged off the commissioning of 16 ward offices for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) across the 24 wards in Idemili North/South Federal Constituency.

Williams, a chieftain of the ADC in the state, was joined by the state chairman, Patrick Obianyo and other party executives at the state, local government and ward levels during the flag-off ceremony in Abacha, Eziowelle, Abatete, Uke, Nkpor 1, Oraukwu, Ideani, Ojoto, Awka Etiti 1 and Awka Etiti 2 wards.

Other wards includes, Nnobi 1, Nnobi 2, Nnobi 3 and Nnokwa in Idemili North and South axis. 

The newly commissioned offices, cut across seven wards in Idemili South and nine in Idemili North, respectively.

According to Williams, the remaining nine offices, would be commissioned in due course.

He affirmed that he was committed to transformative leadership and improved grassroots development, adding that the newly commissioned ward offices would ensure optimal operation of the party activities within the federal constituency. 

He disclosed that the 16 offices in Idemili North and South were part of his personal contributions towards the advancement of the ADC structures in the state.

Williams, who led the recent defection of over 250 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members to the ADC, reassured party leaders of his unwavering commitment to real-time human capital development and transformative leadership.

He stressed that improving grassroots politics through dedicated party structures would bring genuine development to the grassroots and benefit the constituency.

“In January, I officially joined the ADC in my ancestral home, Abacha ward, in Idemili North Local Government, with over 250 supporters from our former party, the PDP. At that time, I donated to formally register my political family in the ADC and pledged to further strengthen our support base in Idemili North and South, as well as Anambra Centra.

“That is why, today, I am pleased to facilitate the procurement of our party offices across the 24 wards in Idemili North and South Federal Constituency. These party offices would subsequently be equipped with needed facilities to ensure optimal operation and spread the ADC activities to all nooks and crannies of our beloved zone. I am most proud to join our esteemed party leaders, women and youth groups, to drive positive change and give a new life to our cherished political platform,” he said.

On his part, the state party chairman, Patrick Obianyo, commended Williams for his giant strides, stressing that such gestures would garner organic support from the grassroots and give the ADC the momentum needed for membership mobilisation.

He said: “Today, it gives me great joy to witness one of our illustrious sons in Idemili North, fulfil his pledge of donating 24 well-equipped ward offices to our great party, the African Democratic Congress. Incidentally, we are kicking off in Abacha, which is his hometown. This is a very significant moment for us as we gather here today. Indeed, charity begins at home.

“What we are doing today is the beginning of a greater grassroots for our party as it sets out for membership mobilization.”

Also in his remarks, the state chairman expressed optimism in the party’s chances of emerging victorious in the 2027 polls, even as it seeks to consolidate its structure from the grassroots.

“The rate at which we are going today, Anambra ADC is gearing towards building a formidable structure at the grassroots level to be able to get going and ensure that 2027 becomes a year of victory for us. We are getting prepared for the election,” Obianyo affirmed.

To further consolidate on the membership mobilisation effort, Williams announced a donation of over 2000 campaign items, including customized T-shirts, caps, and banners, to support the ADC activities in the axis. 

Also speaking, the Anambra  ADC state women leader, Mrs Amaka Obiefuna, dismissed viral claims that the party lacked structure to contest the forthcoming elections in the state, describing the commissioning exercise as a significant ‘milestone’ for the party.

“We are opening ADC offices in Idemili North and South, which is a milestone because some are saying ADC has no structure, but with what is happening today, you can see that we have structures and ADC is moving. Anambra State is moving; we are on the right side,” she said.

Similarly, the ADC youth leader for Idemili North, Arinze Chukwu-Okoye, highlighted the unifying significance of the newly commissioned party offices, calling on Ndi Anambra to take on their ADC membership at their respective ward level.

“We are very happy because this will serve as a way of uniting the disarrayed members of the ADC. For those who want to join the ADC, come in now, register with the party, and be prepared for the forthcoming elections,” he said.

Chukwu-Okoye, while describing the ADC as a ‘moving train’ set to take over elective positions in the country at local, state and federal levels, urged members to remain united and prepare for the 2027 elections.

“The important thing is not just to register but to be prepared for the forthcoming election. The ADC is a moving train that would rescue Nigeria from its current worrying state. We are taking over the leadership of the country, at the local, state and federal levels,” he added.

Several women and youth groups, including party stalwarts and members of the ADC across the 24 political wards in Idemili North and South Federal Constituency, attended the event, marking the beginning of a new era in the history of the opposition party in Anambra State.
