Anambra 2025: I’m not running for deputy gov –Ekwunife

From Emmanuel Uzor, Awka

Senator Uche Ekwunife has dismissed widespread speculations that she is eyeing the office of deputy governor of Anambra State in 2025.

Ekwunife, who is also the director general, South East Governors’ Forum, said though she remained an APC stalwart, she would not be running for the position of Deputy Governor in 2025 as is being speculated.

Ekwunife, who represented Anambra Central in the senate, insisted that the rumour was unfounded, adding that she would not be on the ballot as Deputy Governor as no one runs to be a deputy governor, because it is often the prerogative of the party and the candidate of the party.

“As the DG of South East Governors’ Forum, I am focused on my job. I intend to devote my time to the service and to the cause of South East Governors, which is to build strong economic, political, and regional cooperation for the South East.

She commended the South East Governors for their cohesion and willingness to change the South- East narrative for good.

“Top on the agenda of the governors are ongoing conversations around maintaining law and order, energy supply, modern transportation, and infrastructure to connect the major cities in the South East through rail transport, among others,” she said.
