Kano State has been thrown in a state of mourning following the death of multi-billionaire businessman and philanthropist, Aminu Alhassan Dantata. He was 94.
Dantata, an uncle to Aliko Dangote and apparently one of the richest men in the region, passed away in the early hours of Saturday following an illness associated to old age.
Family sources who confirmed his passing indicated that his funeral would be conducted later in the day.

A renowned philanthropist, he gave out donations in support of the growth of Islam, educational advancement of youths , skills acquisition and economic empowerment of people and communities.
The departed elder statesman also served in the public service of the state and was a member of the Constitution Drafting Committee that prepared Nigeria’s 1979 Constitution.
In 2022, the deceased made the headlines when he publicly declared that he was no longer enjoying life.
Speaking when he played host to the Vice Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Kashim Shettima, the elder statesman had declared that he had done everything on earth and was then looking forward to passing away peacefully.
Dantata recalled how he had travelled to all the states in Nigeria and did things with people in those places.
“Sadly, of all the people I know, I hardly can call out 10 that are still alive.
“Among my entire family of brothers and sisters, I’m the only one still alive.
“And my friends whom we grew up together, I don’t think there are more than three of us.
“As I am right now, I am just waiting for my time. I no longer enjoy life anymore. I hope I depart this world in good faith”, he had said.
Dantata had appealed to anyone he offended to forgive, adding that he had forgiven those who offended him.
