Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez has ended his nearly decade-long relationship with agent Fernando Hidalgo following the collapse of his proposed move to Barcelona during the summer transfer window.
The Argentina international reportedly became unhappy with how his future was handled, prompting him to seek fresh representation after remaining at Atletico Madrid despite Barcelona’s interest.
According to Argentine sports outlet TyC Sports, Alvarez has decided to part ways with Hidalgo and find a new agent following the transfer dispute.
The disagreement intensified after Alvarez expressed his desire to leave Atletico following Argentina’s victory over Austria at the 2026 World Cup.
“The best thing for everyone is a transfer,” he said, in comments that reportedly angered Atletico’s hierarchy and added to tensions surrounding his future.
Barcelona were reported to have offered €100 million for the striker, but Atletico refused to negotiate, insisting on his €500 million release clause.
Atletico chief executive Miguel Angel Gil Marin had also criticised people within the striker’s circle, saying in an August interview with Movistar: “There have been people responsible for misleading and confusing him.”
Alvarez’s decision to change agents comes after a turbulent summer that strained his relationship with sections of Atletico’s supporters. The striker is now expected to seek a fresh start off the pitch while working to regain his best form under manager Diego Simeone.
The 26-year-old remains an Atletico player, with reports indicating that his father, Gustavo Alvarez, is involved in the search for a new representative. Former Argentina international Javier Pastore’s agency has been mentioned as a possible option, although no appointment has been confirmed.
