Alumni of Abia and Imo State universities under the aegis of Zenith Environmental and Social Protection Network (ZESPRONET), have concluded plans to build a lavatory and plant trees in their alma mater.
ZESPRONET President, Boris Emeka Oji, who disclosed this at the 2022 annual general meeting, fundraising, and flag-off of the proposed projects, in Abuja, said the gesture was part of the association’s corporate social responsibility.
The event was attended by the vice chancellors of Abia and Imo States universities, Onyemachi Ogbulu and Uchechukwu Chukwumaeze respectively.
In his welcome address, Oji said: “We invited you to celebrate with us on the little successes of six years and, while at it, we implore you to join us as we take another leap of faith and embark on two huge projects in Abia State University and Imo State University.
“I imagine some of you may ask the question, ‘why Imo State University; after all, you are an alumnus of Abia State University?’
“The answer is why not Imo State University? We have members from Imo State and, if we do not invest in the future of our children, who will?”
He also urged South East governors to focus on building and connecting gas pipelines in the region, to grow the region’s economy.
“For instance, we have the knowledge base to encourage the governors into focusing and pushing for interconnectivity of the gas pipelines from Abia through Imo to the major business centres of Abia, Nnewi, Onitsha, Enugu Abakaliki that will bring businesses back to these cities, increase internally generated revenue and reduce reliance on the monthly allocations from the Federal Government,” Oji said.
