Ghana is seeking $3 billion (£2.42 billion/€2.72 billion) bail out from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to solve their economic crisis as well as host the postponed 2023 All Africa Games.
Reports monitored from Accra indicate that Ghanaian Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta met with the IMF and World Bank in Washington, District of Columbia, in the build-up to the delayed African Games in Accra, and was encouraged by the results.
The country’s financial problems were the major reason cited for the postponement of the African Games in Accra, now due to take place from March 8 to 24 2024.
Ghana’s effort to host the13th edition was equally hampered by disagreement over marketing rights, which has delayed the completion of the required facilities. The country has been struggling to complete the facilities required to host the games.
The main arena for the games, which is situated at Borteyman, is well behind schedule. Accra, Kumasi, and Cape Coast are expected to be the three cities to host the competition.
Meanwhile, a team from Rugby Africa, led by its President Herbert Mensah, on Monday April 17, 2023 was in Accra to inspect the dedicated Rugby stadium under construction for the Games.
