The maiden edition of Onimaba Youth Games will take place today at Ige Adubi Way, Igando, Alimosho Local Government, Lagos State.
The grassroots event is being sponsored by Onimaba Youth Development Association.
Speaking ahead of the event, an official of the association, Sekoni Yaseed Olalekan said the event was packaged to create awareness among youths in the area on security issues affecting the community.
According to him, “Onimaba Youth Games is a competition designed to attract all the youths in the community and gather them in one place for a day of fun and relaxation. It kicks-off tomorrow, (today) and it has four sports categories which are football, athletics, snooker and table tennis.
“The aim is to bring all youths in the community to one place so we can enlighten them on security threats in the area and the way forward.”
According to him, it promises to be an exciting event as each participant is entitled to pick two sports only.
Olalekan added: “The event is holding because of the insecurity in our environment. Some of us came together with the aim of putting a stop to it. Sports is a very powerful tool for uniting people. This informs why we are bringing the youth in the neighborhood together through the games which is a one day event.
“If every youth in the community can interact and identify each other, it will be easy to pinpoint miscreants who come in to disrupt peace in our environment,” he added.
