His Royal Majesty, Alexander Uzo Onyido is one of the most respected traditional rulers from the South-Eastand beyond. As the Igwe of Ogidi Kingdom, he is famous for making rhe community the envy of others in Anambra State and the entire South-East region, with his transformational, participatory and inclusive leadership style.
With an enviable academic background, and an illustrious career in Pharmacy, Igwe Onyido was an accomplished man before his emergence as the traditional ruler of Ogidi. He worked at the Kano State Ministry of Health, where he first served as a pharmacist. He proved his worth and in record time, he rose to the position of Assistant Chief Pharmacist, and Member, Health Services Management Board, Kano State.
When he voluntarily resigned his appointment in the civil service to pursue his interest in the private sector, he established Pal Pharmaceutical Industries Limited, which became an instant success in Nigeria and Africa. He also established a subsidiary pharmaceutical company in Ogidi, known as Alben Healthcare Industries Limited, where he has employed over 3,000 workers.

In his quest for expansion, he ventured into the oil and gas sector, and founded Pal Oil & Gas Limited, which placed him in the league of major oil marketers in Nigeria.
Igwe Onyido is not just an accomplished businessman and royal father but also a philanthropist who takes a great pleasure in caring for the needy, particularly, the poor, the aged, and the indigent. He placed certain elderly persons in Ogidi on monthly allowance; pays school fees for indigent youths; and fends for widows.
Not long ago, he built and donated a complex to the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Igbariam in Anambra State. He also spearheaded the installation of ICT facilities in the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and provides Industrial Training opportunities for students of Pharmaceutical Sciences from the university.
For years, Igwe Onyido has sponsored the enlightenment campaign debate against drug and substance abuse organised by NDLEA amongst students in Anambra State.
Igwe Onyido is revered royal father, distinguished by wisdom, dignity and compassion; a custodian of the people’s heritage, a fountain of counsel, and a symbol of peace, unity and enduring cultural values.
For his landmark achievements, enormous contributions to social and economic development of the country; the positive impact he has made on Ogidi Kingdom and the people, HRM Igwe Alexander Uzo Onyido is winner of the Royal Father of the Year Award 2026.
