The kingmakers in Oyo Kingdom have announced that screening will begin on Monday September 5, 2022 for the 86 contestants that have shown interest to occupy the stool of the Alaafin of Oyo.
The Director of Media and Publicity to the Alaafin of Oyo, Bode Durojaiye, made this known in a statement issued on Thursday, after a meeting held by the Oyo Traditional Council (Oyo Mesi) on Thursday.
He stated that theBaba Iyaji of Oyo, Chief Mukaila Afonja, has submitted names of the contestants to Basorun of Oyo, High Chief Yussuf Akinade Ayoola.
Durojaiye said 10 contestants would be interviewed daily from Monday 5th to 8th of September 2022. He added that there would be a break on Friday, September 9, as no interview would take place to pave the way for Jumat service,.
The interview, according to him, would resume on Monday September 12, and would end on
September 15, 2022.
Durojaiye said: “Consequently, an emergency meeting of all members of the Oyo Traditional Council (Oyo Mesi) was summoned today (Thursday). In attendance at the meeting was the chairperson, Atiba Local Government, Alhaja Kafilat.
“At the end of the meeting, all contestants were urged to attend a peace meeting on Saturday, 3rd of September, 2022, at the Agbala Ogun Hall, in the palace.”
