The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, has offered automatic employment to Mkpouto-Abasi Ime Umossoh, a Nautical Science graduate from the Academy of Maritime Education and Training (AMET) in Kanathur, Chennai, India.

According to the governor’s spokesman, Ekerete Udoh, Eno’s gesture followed an appeal made by Umossoh during his inspection visit to ARISE Park, located along Brook Street, Uyo.

Umossoh, who informed the governor that he graduated with a First Class degree in Nautical Science, said he needed a sustainable means of livelihood to support his aged parents.

Umossoh, who hails from Essien Udim Local Government Area, also holds a National Diploma from the Maritime Academy of Nigeria (MAN), Oron, and mentioned that he is qualified to work as a 3rd Officer onboard a ship.

Moved by compassion, Eno directed the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah, to liaise with the Commissioner for Transport, Hon. Orman Esin, to engage Umossoh in the State’s passenger cruise ship project after due diligence is conducted by the Commissioner for Internal Security, General Koko Essien.

The governor, who took a walk around ARISE Park, was delighted at the pace of work and the ingenuity displayed in transforming the life-threatening gully erosion site into what will certainly be a wealth-generating tourism site upon completion.
