The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, has decamped from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Eno made the announcement at the Government House, Uyo on Friday, flanked by the governors of Lagos, Ogun, Edo, Delta, Ebonyi and Cross River.

“Earlier this morning I submitted my letter of resignation from the PDP to the ward chairperson. Same copy has been sent to the state and national chairpersons of the party,” Eno said.

The announcement brought to an end weeks of speculation over Eno’s political future, mostly fuelled by his own utterances and actions.

In May, the governor directed all commissioners and political appointees to join him in defecting to the APC or resign.

Eno’s defection marks the end of PDP’s 26-year rule in Akwa Ibom.
