Akwa Ibom: Eno tasks cabinet as school gets classrooms

Akwa Ibom State Governor Pastor Umo Eno has charged cabinet members to replicate the Arise Agenda for greater impact in rural communities, especially in education and rural development.

Speaking during the handing-over and commissioning of 2 classroom blocks executed by the Commissioner for Internal Security, General Koko Essien, at AME Zion Primary School, Ndon Ebom, in Uruan Local Government Area of the state, Eno urged cabinet members to drive the Arise Agenda to accelerate development in communities.

Eno disclosed that education is one of the key points of the Arise Agenda as a foundation for societal development and urged other cabinet members to replicate the gesture in their localities.

The Commissioner for Internal Security and Waterways in the state, General Koko Essien, while addressing community leaders and the management of AME Zion Primary School, explained that the project was executed through the General Koko Essien Development Initiative in support of Governor Umo Eno’s Arise Agenda in education.

He thanked Governor Umo Eno for appointing him to the State Executive Council and advised the pupils to use the facility wisely for learning.

Essien, who is a former pupil of the school, also charged them to use the conducive atmosphere of the school to improve their academic grades to empower them to give back to society in their own time.

“This community must provide adequate security to protect the classroom blocks against vandals who are now destroying school infrastructure to undermine the effort of government in the education sector.”

“This community must rise up to protect this renovated building for our children and the next generation.”

Responding, the headmaster of the school, Mrs Lucy Edet, disclosed that the school was established in 1936, adding that 90 years after, it was in a dilapidated condition with collapsed classroom blocks and other facilities.

“Recently, I fought to receive only 50 plastic chairs and lockers from the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) for pupils in the school.”

“This intervention by the Honourable Commissioner for Internal Security has lifted the school to a certain level in its infrastructural development.”

“I appeal for borehole and toilet facilities as well as other intervention projects that will help to improve learning in the school.”

The village head of the community, Chief Augustine Effiong, appreciated the commissioner for renovating the classroom blocks and investing in the future of the pupils.

“I urge all of you to take ownership of this property for future generations of learners.”

Goodwill messages were received from colleagues, including the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mkpisong Frank Archibong, who described the project as a demonstration of commitment to the Arise Agenda of the present administration in the state.

“I appeal to this community to vote for Pastor Umo Eno as a reciprocal gesture for this edifice for your children under Pastor Umo Eno.”

“If Tinubu had not released funds to Umo Eno, which in turn reached Koko Essien, this school would not have been renovated and delivered today for our children.”

“On behalf of the college of commissioners in the state, I promise to drill a borehole for the pupils here.”
