Akure protest erupts over farmers’ killing by herdsmen

By Bamigbola Gbolagunte, Akure

Commercial and social activities ground to a halt in parts of Akure, the Ondo State capital, on Tuesday. Farmers and youths protested the alleged killing of three farmers in Akure North Local Government Area by suspected herdsmen.

The protesters came from the Tafa area of Ajagbusi along Igbatoro Road, where the deceased farmers worked. They claimed herdsmen, believed to be Fulani, are terrorising them and their families while destroying crops with their cattle.

Carrying leaves and the victims’ corpses, the protesters blocked the road to the Governor’s Office in Alagbaka, Akure. This disrupted traffic flow in the area. They urged the state government to find the killers and improve security, warning that the attack has plunged their community into mourning.

The group called on security agencies to step up efforts to protect lives and property. They also issued a stern warning to the herdsmen against further attacks on their colleagues and families.
