The traditional rulers of Akure North Local Government, Ondo State, have called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, and the leadership of the All Progressives Congress to zone the 2027 House of Representatives ticket to the area.

The monarchs said the demand was anchored on fairness, equity and democratic inclusion, warning that continued political exclusion could trigger discontent among loyal party supporters.

In a statement signed on behalf of the royal fathers by the Ogbolu of Itaogbolu Land and Chairman, Council of Obas, Akure North Local Government, Oba Faborode Idowud, the rulers stressed that the request was not a favour but a necessity.

They reaffirmed their unwavering support for Tinubu, noting that the people of Akure North remained committed to mobilising massively for his re-election bid.

“Our people are loyal, committed, and ready to mobilise massively in support of the President’s second term, but loyalty must be matched with fairness,” the statement read.

The monarchs warned that persistent marginalisation could weaken confidence in party structures and alienate a critical voting population.

They also pointed to what they described as a glaring imbalance in the current political arrangement, noting that Akure South presently holds both the senatorial seat and the House of Representatives position.

According to them, such concentration of political power in one local government is neither equitable nor sustainable in a democratic system.

They insisted that equity demands that the House of Representatives seat be conceded to Akure North, describing the area as a major stakeholder in the constituency.

Highlighting its contributions, the monarchs noted that Akure North has 12 wards, a growing population and serves as the agricultural backbone of the constituency, while also hosting key infrastructure, including the Akure Airport corridor.

They, however, lamented that despite these advantages, the area had remained politically sidelined, describing the situation as systemic marginalisation.

The rulers urged party leaders and relevant stakeholders to act swiftly to address the imbalance and ensure justice ahead of the 2027 elections.
